Kevin Kee

Kevin Kee is the Canada Research Chair of Digital Humanities, and an Associate Professor at Brock University, as well as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education at McGill University. Before arriving at Brock in 2005, he was a Director and Project Director at the National Film Board of Canada, and an Assistant Professor at McGill University. He researches best practices and potential for the design, development and use of computer simulations and serious games for history teaching and learning. This research has been funded by the Canada Research Chairs Program, the Canada Foundation for Innovation, Heritage Canada, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation, and Brock University. He has written extensively on history computing and has developed history web sites, simulations and games.

At Brock University Kevin leads the “Simulating History” research project, and directs the “Simulating History Research Lab” (http://www.simulatinghistory.com). He also organizes the biennial “Interacting with Immersive Worlds Conference” which has drawn world-class researchers such as James Paul Gee and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. Kevin applies his research conclusions to real-world challenges through the development of institutions. For example, he helped create “nGen - The Niagara Interactive Media Generator,” a new initiative that brings together key partners in industry, economic development and post-secondary education to help jump-start and grow new enterprise in the Niagara Region. He is also president of a software development company which has been awarded grants by agencies such as the Bell New Media Fund.
 
He also specializes in Canadian cultural history. He received the 2005 Journal of the Canadian Historical Association Prize, and his book, Revivalists: Marketing Religion in English Canada, was published by McGill-Queen's University Press in 2006. You can find his blog at www.kevinkee.ca
